Danielle is a Scottish born designer, who graduated from Illustration at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 2013 and is currently living and making in London. Danielle Smith Illustration creates a variety of individual, hand-made ceramics and printed works, inspired frequently by her gypsy/traveller family background.
With a personal connection to the culture, her work often portrays the community in a very positive light compared to that of the images displayed in the media today. Sometimes seemingly eerie and dark, the work is always laced with nostalgia and derived from a positive place of her own experiences, memories or family stories.
Currently she is primarily focused on the making and selling of her ceramic head pots, derived from a larger series of works entitled “Gypsy Trails”. Her ceramic works are usually practical objects that can serve a purpose in the home, such as planters and ashtrays – however the hand-made aspect of their designs make for unique and exciting gifts with a back story.
You can shop their collections and meet them alongside 70 other independent designers and makers at our next event at Shoreditch town hall.
