Ella creates unique silk artworks and wall hangings, all dyed and screen printed by hand in London. Alongside these printed textile pieces she also produces drawings and paintings under the same collection.
Her current work is inspired by the Japanese philosophy of ‘wabi sabi’, which celebrates the beauty of transience and imperfection. She focuses on imbuing a sense of age and wear through chemical processes that break down the silks into delicate, ethereal shapes. She then layers the silks with hand drawn imagery through screen printing. Her mark making has a meditative energy and is derived from studying organic forms including seeds and wood grain.
Her imagery is drawn in sketchbooks, and then exposed onto screen for printing. The silks are distressed through chemical processes, which erode and discolour the fibres. They are then carefully dyed and screen printed in layers. All colours are developed from scratch using procions and pigments.
You can shop their collections and meet them alongside 70 other independent designers and makers at our next event at Shoreditch town hall.
