From Brighton With Love was launched in Summer 2012 when Sally Evans moved to the city after many years living and working in the design industry in London. After reacquainting herself with the intricacies of a knitting machine she started producing cushions and poufs using natural yarns – mainly wool and cotton – although silk and linen may appear at a later date.
Some items use the intarsia technique which, although time consuming, produces wonderful 3d patterns that make the items very tactile. The colours are inspired by Brighton and the surrounding area – blue of the sea and sky, green for the South Downs and pink for the sticks of rock and candy floss! All cushions fasten with five shell buttons that enhance the seaside feel. The majority of items are made to order and bespoke colours and sizes can be made on request.
Hannah has a fascination with nature that influences her design and ceramic work. The negative spaces between branches, silhouettes of mountains and patterns in water are great sources of inspiration. She likes to evoke emotions with her work, to play with the colours and shapes that I find around me.
Hannah found inspiration in the univalve shells she found while walking along the Solway Coast, in Cumbria. The spiral patterns and the conical nature of these shells influenced her designs for a series of unique vessels with crystalline glazes. The shapes she created allowed some control over the flow of the glaze in the kiln allowing the crystals to grow properly. Using the colours she saw in the sky and sea that one day she hopes to rouse the calm she felt in others.
Honey Malaolu is a bespoke fashion brand inspired by beautiful rich colours and ethnic cultures, keeping the essence of the butterfly at the centre of each of her designs.
