Featured Designer: William Rolls

william rolls ceramic dog

Humorous, Spirited, Curious, Bounding, Energetic

Dogs provide William Rolls with enormous scope for experimentation and exploration. Playfulness and joyfulness, movement and freedom are important elements in the characters that he produces. The clay creates the characters in his work whilst he influence structures, forms and surface finishes.

Every clay has its own strengths and weaknesses and brings unique qualities to each piece. It is important that each dog has a unique personality – either in form, character or technical application. He aims to capture the spirit of the dog without over finishing so that the final piece has inherent character and distinctiveness.

Most of his work is fired to stoneware so is durable. William finishes his work with slips, underglazes and oxides. His work is informed by research from real life. He says that he sketches dogs at every opportunity, as he wants to try and understand their anatomy, personalities and interactions. He has found that making time to do this has really helped his creative practice and culminated in the work he is currently producing. Every piece is unique.

Their bold geometric designs made from high gloss, pearlescent and mirrored acrylic in sumptuously dark and eye-poppingly bright colours create strong statement pieces which are playful yet effortlessly cool.

Inspired by their shared obsession for bold graphic shapes, fractals, symmetry, geometry and patterns within art and nature they started a series of collaborative design and art works which would eventually become the first collection.

Featured Designer: Katie Snow

Featured Designer: Katie Snow

katie snow jewellery

A fascination for illusion, function and geometric forms enables Katie Snow to create little ‘Pockets of Intrigue’ enticing the viewer to take a closer look. These small, wearable containers conceal treasures of the owner’s desire. She takes photographs of buildings and skylines which are used to manipulate shapes in computer design software, enabling me to extract sections for further development.

Each piece is individually created from silver, carefully constructed into oblique 3D forms. Tiny parts of detail are pierced out of the sheets creating ‘little windows’, enabling the viewer to catch a glimpse inside or straight through the container.

The functional wearables are sleek and geometric, suitable for the male and female wearer. Complementing these is a range of smaller commercial pieces keeping the same aesthetic to form an expanding elegant collection.

What could be concealed in your pocket?  A love note, money, medication….? A secret only the wearer will know…

Featured Designer: Samantha Blundell

samantha blundell ceramics

Nature has always been at the forefront of Samantha’s inspiration. That burst of life and energy you experience when you walk through a bed of flowers or meadow are elements in which Samantha hopes to portray within her own work.

Hand building is very much Samantha’s passion for the unique qualities she can achieve from this process. Her organic, bulb-like forms make a bold statement on their own but also work together to fully express the immeasurable experience of nature.

Samantha’s knowledge of colour and glazing has really helped aid her in her work; the more expressive glazing techniques not only compliment the forms but also make them vibrant and distinctive.

For Samantha Ceramics is unlike any other art form  and she feels most creative and comfortable when working with clay.

anna faine bracelet

Anna Faine Jewellery is a handmade collection of distinctive, bespoke pieces, designed to celebrate the curious and individual. Each piece is created using precious metals and gemstones to ensure each item tells its own unique story. The primary creative inspiration for her Jewellery comes from both the absurdity and humour of life, and her love of craftsmanship and detail. Anna has always been strongly influenced by the work of Lewis Carroll and Alice in Wonderland, the idea of turning the ordinary into the extraordinary with humour and a genuine search for understanding the world around us. The story has always been the key to how she approaches her work, creating pieces which have many layers of detail and hopefully communicate a personal resonance to the wearer.

anna m earrings

Anna.M is contemporary jewellery designer based in London.

The aesthetics of Anna’s designs are about subtle organic shapes paired with modern elegance. She is fascinated by nature, and in particular the microflora and the beauty of small intricate organisms living in symbiotic clusters. Anna’s aim is to reveal the secret allure of micro and macroscopic landscapes and to translate them into jewellery. She uses a variety of pearls, precious and semi-precious stones to mirror the natural diversity of shapes and colours derived from her inspiration.

Anna experiments extensively with different techniques and materials to create innovative textures and forms. She is breaking traditions of stone setting. Instead of using the popular prong or bezel settings, She frames stones and pearls in metal compressed at great pressure. The result is slightly different each time, making each piece unique.
